about

I remember I had been listening to Goldie's Timeless album in my car for a while when I wrote this track. Obviously on this album I was heavily influenced of the 90's jungle / drum and bass sound and that was something I was trying to re-create in my own style. I played a version of this track at the Samaris Hljóma Þú record release party and I definitely sensed good vibes from the crowd, especially from "part II" in the song. When I was recording the final touches I wondered if it was a smart move to add a Roland TB-303 bassline on top. I called my friend Dagbjartur Elís, who is the man behind the brilliant acid one-man project Fu Kaisha, and asked if I could come visit him in his studio and have him record some 303 lines for a track of mine. He was mega into it, so I took the bus to "Acid Hverfisgata" (his home in 101, Reykjavík). Our friends were at the apartment, Mummi (who directed the video for 'Deep Blue' www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdjCUe8uIUY) and Geir Helgi (soundcloud.com/geir-helgi), and the atmosphere was all-around nice (they were making some video art for a phone company). Dagbjartur listened to the song twice and then wrote an acid line immediately. It took two takes in recording - it was magical. We both were pretty happy about the results, so there was nothing left but to take the track to the mixing stage (it was a smart move to add a 303). Smurfen did a good job in mixing the track, but when we were at the Muhaha studio - doing the masters - BIX listened to the track couple of times and asked if he could mix it again. He fell in love with the track and wanted it to sound like if he had written it himself in the 90's. Smurfen was okay with it, so this is the only track on the album that BIX both mixed and mastered. It sounds - and people seem to love it.
