Engihjalli Ambient

about

I wrote Engihjalli Ambient at noon in january 2011. I remember playing the melodies on the DX7 (through D16's Decimort), record it in Ableton Live and at breaks I would be talking to my friends online; Sigurbjörn (Biogen), Jónas Thor (Ruxpin) and Jóhann (skurken). The conversation was about nothing, like always, but Jónas started talking about the great storm in Engihjalli, which took place in february '81, which I thought was very interesting (the title comes from there, thanks Jónas). Later I realized, through my friends Andri Már (Dj AnDre) and Hjalti (HH-82) who both grew up in Engihjalli, that we all had a similar lifestyle when we were teenagers, but I lived in Tálknafjörður - more than 400 km away. So today we always say that like minded people have Engihjalli in them. I shot a video for the track in the summer of 2011 (www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqbkxXqtVmY). My brother Gunnar Smári and his friend Natan helped me to make the video and I was going to release it on an album called 'Hrafnagil', but that album never came out (thank god). So it ended up as the first track on this album - and I must say I'm really proud of it.
