about

This track was written sometime in the summer of 2011. I was going through some records I just purchased from LUCKY RECORDS (I mostly buy jazz records these days) and I started sampling some stuff. After a while I sat in front of the computer and started Propellerhead Reason and played some jungle loops, added the samples I just made and recorded some strings on top. Basic. I finished this track in early 2012, when I added the sub bass and some other final touches. The title of the track comes from the basement in Móatún 8, Tálknafjörður, that we used to call Kjarninn (the core). Me and my friends always used to hang out there, when we were young, and played video games (Tomb Raider, Age of Empires, Counterstrike, etc.), listened to music, made music, played Risk, watched movies and got drunk. Good memories from that place (sweaty memories). Jónas, who is like a brother to me, lived there and he was in a band with me called Equal. He once wrote a tune that had the same jungle loop as I have in my song 'Kjarninn', so when making the track, I thought back at the great times me and my friends shared at Kjarninn. Smurfen (www.discogs.com/artist/Smurfen) and BIX did a wonderful job in mixing and mastering the track, so I was very pleased with the outcome.
