Stapi

about

Version 1 of this track was written back in 2009 with a Roland TR-606 beat as the driving force. I used to play that version for myself and I always thought there was something lacking in the production. In April this year I opened the file again in Propellerhead Reason and started to play around with it. I deleted my recording of the 606 drums and added a kontrabass instead, so it was more of a journey filled ambient track. I turned on my Korg Electribe EA-1 and recorded the high pitched bassline that runs through out the song. After some cups of coffee and some editing I was pretty happy with the results and got a feeling that it was finally ready. The name Stapi comes from a place in Tálknafjörður, my hometown (it's a fjord located in southern Westfjords between Patreksfjörður and Bildudalur). Stapi is located many kilometers from the town itself and no roads lead up to it (at least not approved) - so you would have to go there by foot from the house at Sellátrar (sellatrar.vefvistun.net). The scenery at Stapi is beautiful and I always mind travel there when I am alone. I went there with my friends in the summer of 2001 where we stayed in tents for couple of days. Great times and incredible memories of youth - something I think about a lot when I listen to ambient tracks like the ones I write.
